Car wash

Car washOne of the best parts of being a parent is watching your child find joy in the smallest things – in the everyday stuff that we might otherwise take for granted.

Got a little lesson in enjoying the moment today when Lily and I went through the car wash; she was thrilled at all the colours. “Mom! It looks like a rainbow!” she exclaimed of the soapy suds. Couldn’t resist snapping this picture of her watching the colours converge on the sunroof.

“The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life and elevating them to an art.”

– William Morris

  1. Yesterday, I took three screeching and giggling ten year old girls to Parc Omega in Quebec. By the end of it the swagger wagon (A.k.a. the minivan) was coated in deer saliva and snot. The girls desperately wanted to stop at the car wash on the way home but I was afraid the doors would freeze shut and, in the end, they wanted to spend the extra time with our puppy, Mango. Grab onto that simple excitement and hang on to it tight before it seeps through your fingers like so much sand…

(Gotta get that spit and snot off the windows, though – getting hard to see…)

  2. Parc Omega is great! I’ve never been there in the winter, but summer visits also bring a lot of saliva & snot! 🙂 I know…kids can teach us so much about living in the moment, can’t they? Happy New Year, Geoff! 🙂
